Mechazilla Simulator
A downloadable game for Windows
Mechazilla Simulator
THIS IS ONLY A TEST RELEASE. IT IS NOT A FINAL RELEASE AND ITS CONTENTS WILL CHANGE IN THE FUTURE.
Your goal: Catch the booster! It really wants a hug after lifting thousands of tons up into space.
Creator: .earthandmoon. (Display: -Earth and Moon-) [Discord]
Controls:
W: throttle 100%
S: throttle 0% (engines off)
A/D: steer left or right, respectively (works only if W or S is pressed!)
only the autopilot can adjust throttle and gimbal to arbitrary values
1: enable inner 3 engines.
2: enable inner 13 engines.
(the other 20 engines can only be enabled before launch as they lack (re)ignition capabilities)
only the autopilot has access to some special engine modes: 0 (0% throttle IS NOT the same as 0 engines activated), 2 & 8 engines
C/X: cycle through all cameras.
O: toggle autopilot (catch/landing algorithm, it only steers the booster for you, not the chopsticks!)
R: restart/reload
Scroll up/down: zoom in/out (available on all cameras!)
Esc/P: pause/unpause
Z/Y, I: open/close arms
U/J: move arms up/down
V: vent fuel (visual effect only)

Changelog:
Releases are named after the CET/CEST date that was the current date when the files were exported (the date I clicked "Export" in the export menu).
Test versions (all of them are debug releases):
20250120-Dev-1:
- initial test release
- What else should I write here?
20250201-Dev-2:
- revamped the tower with all its mechanical parts (Chopsticks etc.)
- added some physics stuff
- revamped engine exhaust
- added an automatic catch algorithm
- Post-processing and effects
- some other stuff I don't remember
20250204-Dev-3 "The Unlucky One":
- added a quick restart function
- updated environment:
- better water texture
- expanded the water range to 100 km in all directions from the origin
- water animation (texture offset with time)
- added Starbase terrain, simple & dirty OLM & automatic water deluge system, Tower B, fake Pad B Flame Trench, seafloor (40 m deep)
- added Hoppy
- added clouds (two layers) using noise textures
- added noise textures here and there for detail
- updated lighting (position of DirectionalLight) and added simple shadows
- added post-processing and switched render engine from Vulkan to DirectX 12
- added more cameras, including Rocket Ranch and Buoy Cam
- added a camera name display on the upper border of the viewport
- added a Booster Offshore Divert mode, 35 km off the coast of Boca Chica, with a 25% chance to
be chosen on every reload or startup of the game, and a corresponding UI display
- made the Chopsticks static as their wobbliness and instability is a major problem
waiting to be investigated and solved
- updated some stuff related to booster landings and catches (position & algorithm)
- some other fixes and changes here and there
- packaging the whole game into a single .exe from now on (they used to be stored in two files, .exe and .pck)
- including a console version of the game to detect errors and for debugging purposes
- started naming releases with nicknames
20250215-Dev-4 "The Lucky One":
- modified environment:
- revamped clouds (random generation on every reload or startup), one big layer,
no 20x20 km squares anymore
- added a boundary around the game so you can't fly away!
- expanded the Boca Chica terrain
- upgraded booster systems:
- added yellowish color on the upper edge of the booster
- added 33 Raptor engines, the 13 inner ones can gimbal
- new engine exhaust
- grid fins now react to gimbal commands (but they don't influence aerodynamics yet)
- "fuel":
- added some static frost on the booster
- added visual fuel vents
- updated landing autopilot:
- the booster will now land "anywhere" if it is too far away from target
(don't worry, it won't hit Hoppy or Tower B because they are
offset towards the north and movement directions are restriced to
east/west and up/down)
- smoother engine transition from 13 > 3 (now: 13 > 8 > 3) during landing,
only the autopilot has access to some special engine modes (0, 2 & 8 engines)
and accurate gimbal & throttle control
- added a new camera view (engines cam), originally added for debugging while
upgrading the exhaust effects, but I decided to not delete it
- made the movement of the non-rotating tracking cam smoother
- launch site modifications:
- made Tower A slightly brighter
- installed chopstick actuators and drawworks (kind of)
- user interface:
- added a pause menu
- added telemetry UIs of both the booster and an imaginary upper stage
- modified the camera & flight director display
- some minor fixes here and there
- fixed issues that arose while fixing other issues
- some minor fixes behind the scenes
- export:
- used Windows' internal .zip file functions to compress the game files because some users
had problems when trying to extract 7-zip .zip files with Windows
- no more console versions
- fixed some typos in the readme
- switched rendering back to Vulkan for ... reasons
- Did I forget something?
Fun things to try out if you are bored:
- catch a booster, lower it onto (or right above) the OLM, launch it and catch it again
- travel 35 km westwards during offshore divert and continue landing from there
- fly up until you get above the edge colliders (there is no collider above the map, only on the sides, and they are REALLY tall, tens of thousands of km)
- fly across the whole map once or even several times
- watch a booster offshore divert with the launch pad tracking cameras
- watch a booster catch with the buoy cam
- reach the highest speed (my record was like 6000-7000 km/h)
- do a booster stunt show, just don't crash into critical hardware
The boring stuff:
